Final video

Our video, when not played on a mac the bass sounds far to heavy and does not sound right, we are therefore going to have to make another copy and tone down the bass a lot so it is suitable for ordinary PC speakers.

focus group

Planning to have a focus group of 4 younger students to view our final video and tell us whether it follows the conventions of a thriller film, we will capture the response and blog it.

Final Storyline

In our revised edition of the storyline the focus is more on two of the characters involvement. This is then shown to be unstable since the words like "lies", "betrayal" show us that there is something going on.  Whilst the group are enjoying themselves there are subtle hints that there is something wrong with one of the main characters. He's dressed all in black and looks edgy.  One of the group is then found dead. The premise for the rest of the film is for the audience to discover who killed her. It may not be who you assume at first....

Inspiration!

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SEZK7mJoPLY

Pulp fiction a classic thriller that can only inspire. The mood and atmosphere of pulp fiction inspires our style of filming, we are going to do similar shots as we believe it will fit well. We are going to involve similar ideas from the film 'shrooms'.

our film teaser!

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WgDGl-MogIY

in our teaser we showed some of our editing techniques, mainly for practice for our main film. This gave us a feel of how to use the software on the macs and how to fit a suitable soundtrack to the clip. From this it has prepared us for our actual film; we have practice different camera angles such as pan shots; zoom in's and outs and various high angle shots.

Editing/Camera Ideas

This is the music video for "Take me to the hospital" by the Prodigy it gives some good ideas on how we could maximize our "trippyness" in our film.  http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ncaNlxvTFzg

Mood board for character and costume

This is a mood board to represent the characters and costumes for our film,
it displays young teenagers which shows the type of people that are going to be featured in our film. There are also differant brands featured on the mood board; brands of alcohol and cigarettes hint the type of things the characters are going to be doing as a part of the story line, the tents and barbequed food give the impression that the scene is to be a party atmosphere.
To represent the mood and the atmosphere- weather shots are vital. Pathetic fallacy is the key to setting the mood. Having two shots one of morning fog; lurking in the trees and a sunset glistening through the woods, will juxtapose and will then enable us to exaggerate the contrast of the two shots and go from one extreme to another.

The foggy cold looking shot will create a supernatural and frightening atmosphere as it gives the sense that something is wrong and maybe something is in the fog hiding...

The other shot of the sunset glistening through the trees is a shot that represents the peak of the day, when everything is at its best and it seems hard to believe that something can go wrong.

These are a variety of images which influence our music and editing ideas. An idea for our music: (Zeds dead, massive attack) to begin with is going to be diagetic but as the night progresses it is going to become non diagetic. Also we are going to add in the effect to make the transition clear- this effect of treble to bass is used in 'Daft Punk- Harder better faster. I believe this will make the change from diagetic to non diagetic clear.

Ideas for a possible location

Here are a few pictures i have took to feature apossible location for our film, i have edited them in a style suitable for he rest tgroup to picture the scene in a more thriller type format. They have all been taken in an abandoned cowboy wood in Gestingthorpe where i live, i believe this location would be ideal as the trees alone potray an eerie atmoshphere

lyric association

It's unfortunate that when we feel a storm (possible weather time lapse shot)
We can roll ourselves over 'cause we're uncomfortable
Oh well, the devil makes us sin (taking drugs)
But we like it when we're spinning in his grip (having a trip)
Love is like a sin,
my love,
For the ones that feel it the most (worstly effected from the drugs)
Look at her with her eyes like a flame
She will love you like a fly will never love you again

Questionnaire Results

Here are the results from our questionnaire, either of you guys feel like annotating these go for it..

insperation for filming

Skins show a range of editing techniques for the drug trip, this is insperation to how we edit our film.

Editing Example

When editing our film we are planning to create point of view edits like this to show the audience what the characters are seeing when they are intoxicated.
This is a picture we have edited as an example of the type of editing we are going to conduct during our film.
During our video we're going to attempt at making a time lapse showing how the groups frame of mind is being affected, the video below shows a good example of a time lapse.

location idea 2

A forest in a village outskirt has many characteristics and a lot of potential to film a thriller movie. It is a bird shooting range and has many features such as an abandoned shelter; a fenced of section in the middle of the forest; perfectly aligned trees and man made footpath going through the woods.

location idea

situated at the airdrome in ovington, this location offers a variety of camera shot potential. The front sign on the gate has a no entry sign on it. This could add a thrilling effect to the filming because it would creat a sence of danger.

Detailed Plot Synopsis

Picture the scene; its mid winter in England, frost coats the ground and the sky is perfectly clear fooling you into thinking its warm. A group of friends are strolling through the local forest intent on having a "good time".  As they carry on into deeper denser woods the sun slowly gets blocked out by the overhanging foliage. The troop carries on the sun is now completely out of sight, so is any other sign of civilization. One person says "hey heres a good spot" and so they decide to make camp here. Another person asks for some food, there is a vacant expression on everyone's face as they realize no one bought any food.

Later on there is a cheer as someone discovers a patch of mushrooms and berries. Thats when things get bad...

It`s now night time and everyone is quite frankly off their face. Some people are sitting staring at the trees others are laughing hysterically at a frog. Others have paired off and wandered somewhere more secluded and some are  passed out on the floor.

Night time comes and goes, everyone though misses a shadowy figure watching them silently.

The following morning the group rises slowly, heads pounding and stomachs empty. They gather together around the last remains of what was a fire. Somethings wrong, someone's missing the group look around getting more hysterical. What's happened? Where are they? What could they do? Someone calls her phone and a distant ring is hear they follow the sound until BLAH a dead body half submerged with a knife in her back is found.

Everyone suspects someone else tensions are running high, but no one wants to make the first move, when suddenly some clothes are found with blood stains on them............ to be continued.
We are going to make our movie a fifteen bbfc. This is partly because our questionnaire showed that the main age range watching thrillers were 14-16 year olds. Also it means that our choices of violence and language is more open than a 12 without limiting our audience by making it an 18

Thursday, 13 October 2011

We need to have some shots of the trip and add camera effects such as this one. I think adding in shots and editing effects such as this will make our thriller unique and not completely follow the thriller conventions. I believe because it is unaturalist colours and shapes that it because strange and scary. It is almost half way to reality.

Camera Angles and styles

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZwbsYgZ7d-8

This link shows what type of camera angles we could incorporate into our film

This is a potential front cover, it has naturalist elements about it yet it is a very negative image; the white serif font gives it a fearful look and feel about it.

Short teaser of Psychodellic

A short teaser for what to expect from Psychodellic

A nice day of adolescent camping and fun. As a group of friends explore the forest in which they are staying at, one of the boys spots a patch of grown shrooms on a piece of debris. It fogs over and everyone is intoxicated and they decide to take some shrooms; in the soundtrack the vocals: ‘the devil makes us sin’ and it is then quick action shots (close ups) (fast cuts) of everyone taking shrooms, then it is dark and the soundtrack turns into a heavy dubstep and everyone is on a shroom trip. Finally in the monring someone is found in a ditch with a knife in their back, but who did it?

Quick mock up of Psychodellic

This is just a quick design of a possible end frame, but it may be verging too far on the horror side of the thriller/horror genre

Name Idea

Because the film is going to be based around drug trips we came up with the idea of
PSYCHODELLIC
The reason we chose this was that it takes a word that is usally associated with happiness, and colours and hippys, but a slight change of word gives it an all new context or crime horror and death.

Ideas for Music

We tried to come up with a song that would have a relation to the settings but also sound eerie, the song idea was "Black Milk" by Massive attack. It could also be a possible title for the film as the name doesn't connote positive images. The image is an oxymoron aswell making the idea of it even wierder.
Another idea for music is massive attacks "Paradise Circus Zeds dead remix"

Idea For Location

Abandoned milk factory in Sible Hedingham, it will provide great shot oppurtunitites and also look very eerie. It looks like it will have many oppurtunities to make a good storyline, also it being abandoned means its a perfect setting, we can also expand our plot ideas around it.

Unfortunatley this location is now unavailible so we're going to have to rethink our location ideas
